About Grade Calculator
▼A grade calculator helps students and teachers quickly determine letter grades from marks or percentages. Instead of manually referring to grade tables, our tool automatically calculates the percentage from entered marks and assigns the appropriate grade based on the selected grading scale. It also shows the corresponding GPA points on a 10-point scale.
Grade calculation is essential for understanding academic performance, setting improvement goals, applying for scholarships, and meeting college admission requirements. Our grade calculator supports multiple grading systems used by CBSE, ICSE, state boards, and universities across India.
Grade Calculation Methods
Grades are calculated by first determining the percentage from marks obtained. The formula is: (Marks Obtained / Total Marks) x 100. Once the percentage is calculated, it is matched against the selected grading scale to assign a letter grade and GPA points.
Standard Grading Scale (CBSE & Most Boards)
| Percentage Range | Grade | GPA Points | Remark |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90% 100% | A+ | 10 | Outstanding |
| 80% 89% | A | 9 | Excellent |
| 70% 79% | B+ | 8 | Very Good |
| 60% 69% | B | 7 | Good |
| 50% 59% | C | 6 | Average |
| 40% 49% | D | 5 | Below Average |
| Below 40% | F | 0 | Fail |
School and College Grading Systems
Different educational levels use different grading approaches. Schools typically use absolute grading based on percentage ranges. Colleges and universities may use relative grading, CGPA-based grading, or credit-based semester grading.
School Grading (Classes 1-12)
Indian schools follow CBSE, ICSE, or state board grading patterns. Most schools use the 10-point grading scale where A+ is the highest grade. Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) introduced by CBSE uses both formative and summative assessments.
College and University Grading
Higher education institutions in India use the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as per UGC guidelines. Grades are assigned based on SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). Each subject has credit hours, and the final grade reflects weighted performance across all subjects.
